Stories For My Son #7

Stories For My Son

Today, I’m continuing my journey of documenting stories about me to share with my son. I’m following topics that were provided by You can find a list of previous topics and posts at the bottom of this page.

What is your dream job and why?

I’ve struggled with this question for quite some time.  When I was young, I wanted to be a teacher. I would get extra homework sheets from my teachers and conduct a classroom using them; along with my stuffed animals and a white board. I also would tell my mom that I dreamed of working in a big city at a tall building and carrying a briefcase.

As I reached high school, I discovered theater and fell in love. I dreamed for a while about being an actress. While studying theater in college I tried to be more realistic and focused on stage makeup, directing, and the business side of running a production. But I still knew deep down that I hadn’t stumbled onto my dream job yet.

Junior year of college I focused on communication and thought for a while that public relations, psychology, HR, or anything to do communicating and reading people would be my dream job.

Real life hit after 4, er 5, um make that 6 years of college (but you’ll totally be expected to complete college in 4 years flat) and I quite dreaming about a dream job. Within a couple years I became a business owner and while it wasn’t and still sometimes isn’t everything I would have dreamed of, I feel like being an employer is where my passion and purpose is.  Now that I’ve found where I belong, I find myself dreaming again.

Your dad and I are dreaming up a future that has us traveling wherever in our very own food truck. Moral of the story, don’t ever stop dreaming.
